There are many components to a quality search engine optimization campaign.  A few of the components are the content of the website, inbound links and making sure you update your site on a regular basis.  However, there are also some tactics to avoid in your SEO campaign. 

One of the things you want to avoid is overusing keywords.  Many times businesses and even  Houston SEO companies will load up as many keywords as possible in the website code and in the text of the website.  While it is important to concentrate on your keywords, you are doing your website a disservice by just spraying keywords all over the place. 

It is also important to make sure your content is relevant.  You can have a huge website, but if your content is not relevant to your industry, it is not going help with your rankings.  It also isn’t going to help your customers.  Many times businesses lose sight of what their website is supposed to accomplish.  You want your website to be the best marketing tool in your arsenal so it will generate leads and sales.

Finally, be very wary of SEO companies that promise first page results in the first week or two.  Search Engine Optimization is a process.  It takes time to achieve high rankings.  Depending on the competition in your industry and the keywords you are targeting, the process can take a while.  You should see results within the first few months, but a rapid ascent to page one is rare.  Companies that profess the ability to skyrocket you to page 1 on Google overnight are more than likely using tricks.  These tricks are what are known in the industry as Black Hat Search Engine Optimization.  Many times these companies will use tricks such as white text on a white background or black on black and will stuff keywords in these areas in an attempt to trick the search engine spiders.  Some will also use what are known as link farms which are a bunch of fake sites that act as links to sites in an attempt to make the website seem more relevant.  The problem is that the search engine algorithms are advanced enough to catch these tricks.  Your site might go up initially, but it will crater down the rankings and could possibly be banned.  Meanwhile, your provider is long gone.
